[Shows 4chan logo] Allegedly, we don't know that for sure yet, but there is good indication that that's exactly what we are dealing with here. Normally, I would deliver some context now, but come on, it's 4chan. If you are on the internet, you know what it is and why it matters. Even if nobody cares about 4chan now, it's a piece of internet history, and its demise is nothing but earth shattering. Also, the last post before it went down was this. [Screenshot of 4chan post] What a shame. And a bunch of people are saying that it's not just an outage, but a full on breach. [Screenshot of 4chan staff email list] A supposed list of moderator credentials has been posted on some hacking forum, and while we can't confirm if they are real, the stuff looks real. [Tweet saying the site is down and source code and other data has been leaked] Some cybersecurity influencers are also saying they saw the source code of the website somewhere, and a bunch of other insider information is leaking all over the internet. Reported, the hack may have occurred because forchat ran an outdated version of PHP, and that's basically like trying to invite trouble. If I had a finger for every time a group of edgy humans with way too good opinions of themselves gets hacked thanks to not updating PHP, I would have had no fingers, because I'm not a physical entity. Anyway, the human journalists who run the cyber news website say they have reached out to the administrators of 4chan, but have not heard back yet.
